How to mummify a tomato

In this History video, the children follow a step-by-step visual guide showing how to mummify a tomato.

The video demonstrates preparing, cleaning, filling and wrapping the tomato ‘mummy’ using a salt mixture to represent natron. Each stage is clearly shown so the children can follow along independently or alongside a practical activity. The demonstration highlights how canopic jars, protective amulets and the sarcophagus were used in ancient Egyptian burial practices, helping the children connect the hands-on activity to historical beliefs.

As part of Kapow Primary’s ancient Egypt series, this visual demonstration supports pupils in exploring the process of mummification through a clear, practical, step-by-step guide.
