What is Mummification?

This Kapow Primary History pupil video explains that ancient Egyptians believed in an afterlife where the body and soul would reunite. To ensure preservation, they developed the mummification process.

This Year 3 history lesson explores why mummification was important and how it was done. It includes a fun, hands-on experiment where you prepare a tomato for mummification—just like the ancient embalmers did! Learn about canopic jars, natron salt and the significance of amulets in this fascinating journey into ancient Egyptian beliefs.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s History – Pupil videos. It supports children’s learning about ancient Egyptian beliefs and practices in the lesson and unit below.
