An overview of motors and motorised products

In this Design and technology video, the pupils are introduced to the motor as an electrical component that uses electricity to create movement and some of the uses of motors in the world around us.

The video shows how the inside of a motor spins, making the axle spin, which is used for various applications. It also covers some everyday products that use motors to make things spin, such as fans, washing machines and products that use motors to create other movements, such as windscreen wipers or electric toothbrushes. Finally, pupils learn that motors can come in all sizes, from a few millimetres across to large enough to move huge ships.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Design and technology videos, which enable teachers and pupils to explore and make their own products.
