A rap about Scratch

This Computing scheme of work video uses a rap to explore key concepts in Scratch in an engaging and memorable ways.

The song introduces computational thinking. It starts by showing how decomposition helps break big problems into smaller, manageable steps—an essential skill when creating in Scratch. From there, the rap introduces variables as “gems” within a project that store changing values. These are used to track scores, record answers and personalise projects.

Pupils are also introduced to conditional statements—using “if” and “then” to help the program make decisions. This lays the groundwork for understanding how choices and outcomes can be programmed into games and animations. When errors pop up, debugging is shown as a normal part of the process, helping learners improve their code with confidence.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Year 4 Programming 1: Further coding with Scratch unit. It reinforces key vocabulary and makes coding exciting.
