Learning about MakeCode
This Computing scheme of work video introduces pupils to MakeCode, an exciting online platform where they can build and run their own code using simple blocks. It guides pupils through getting started, creating a project and understanding how code works with the micro:bit.
The video walks pupils through opening MakeCode, finding the My projects section to start new work, and using Tutorials for extra help and inspiration. It explains the layout of the editor, including the coding area, block menu and micro:bit simulator, while showing what a real micro:bit looks like.
Pupils are guided step by step through building their first program, using the on start block and the show icon block to display a smiley face. Along the way, they learn how to delete blocks, run code, and download their finished program or save it for later.
This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Year 2 Computing Programming MakeCode unit. It helps pupils become confident young coders, ready to explore, experiment and create their own exciting digital projects.
