Improving structures by reinforcing them and adding finishing touches such as cladding or paint
In this Design and technology video, the pupils are guided through steps to evaluate, improve and finish their playground structure prototypes.
The video explains how to evaluate and improve playground structure prototypes once the main frames are built. The children test stability by gently pushing the structure and add wider bases or extra weight if it wobbles, and check strength by pressing or twisting, reinforcing weak corners with triangulation if needed. It then focuses on finishing techniques, such as tidying tape, adding cladding, painting carefully and including extra details, to make the prototypes stronger, more stable and more realistic in appearance.
This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Design and technology videos, which enable teachers and pupils to explore and make their own products.
