Making a monoprint of the house drawing

In this Art and design scheme of work video, pupils learn how to make a monoprint using part of their house drawing.

The video begins by showing how to use an L-shaped mount to frame a section of the drawing. Pupils experiment with different angles, choosing an area that’s interesting. Once chosen, they lightly draw a box around the section and copy it onto a separate sheet of paper. Pupils will then prepare the printing surface. They roll out the ink until it makes a sticky sound, then coat a flat surface evenly. The line drawing is gently placed on top of the inked surface. Pupils trace over their drawing to transfer the lines. Once finished, they peel it back to reveal their monoprint.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Year 5 Architecture unit. It gives children a hands-on introduction to printing techniques.
