Global trade through history
In this History video, the children explore how global trade has connected people and places throughout history. They learn that goods such as silk, spices and metals were exchanged across continents using ancient trade routes like the Silk Road, which linked China to the Mediterranean. Trade was not just about goods; people also shared beliefs, languages and customs, allowing cultures to influence one another over time.
The video highlights the historical importance of Lahore, a city in modern-day Pakistan. During the nineteenth century, Lahore became a busy trading centre along the Silk Road. Traders from around the world bought and sold textiles, metalwork and other goods, making Lahore a wealthy and significant city. The children will understand how trade shaped cities, built connections between countries, and drove cultural and economic change throughout history.
This video is part of Kapow Primary’s cultural history resources. It supports children in exploring how trade influences societies and communities, encouraging reflection on how people, goods and ideas travel and shape the world.
