Adding colour and texture to abstract sculpture
This Art and design scheme of work video helps to guide pupils as they complete their abstract sculptures, adding texture, colour and finishing touches.
It encourages pupils to reflect on their work, such as what they like, what could be improved and what they notice when viewing it from different angles. The video explains how artists use materials creatively to change how surfaces look and feel, and how pupils can do the same. It includes practical ideas for adding texture, such as using scrunched paper or tissue to hide joins or soften hard shapes. Painting the sculpture in one colour is suggested as a way to unify the artwork.
This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Year 3 Abstract shape and space unit. It provides guidance to support pupils in finishing and displaying their work so they feel proud of what they have done.
