Introducing different types of line

In this Art and design scheme of work video, pupils explore different types of lines and how they can be created using a range of materials and techniques.

The video begins by introducing different line types: straight, wavy, curved, dashed, dotted and zigzagged. Pupils are encouraged to experiment with how lines can change depending on the materials they use.

They learn about control and how the way they hold their material affects the line. They try using the tip, the edge or the side to create different effects. Next, they explore pressure and how this affects the line made. Pupils will investigate how they can create different effects. They’re encouraged to layer lines, combine materials and try new things.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Year 1 Exploring line and shape unit. It helps pupils build control, confidence and creativity as they experiment with lines and materials.
