Buying fruit at the market in Spain

This Spanish video shows a dialogue which takes place at the Spanish market. The pupils will watch and listen as the stall holder greets the lady and asks her what she would like. She wants ten oranges, which the vendor counts into her shopping bag, and when she is asked if she wants anything else she says that is all. Finally she asks for the price and pays the stall holder before they say goodbye.

For teachers and pupils this is an opportunity to use visual cues and cultural understanding of a shopping scenario as well as some familiar vocabulary to get the gist of an authentic dialogue. The conversation in the video then acts as a model for the pupils to create their own market role-play.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Spanish Year 3 and 4 teacher videos, which support teachers in developing confidence and subject knowledge when helping children learn to communicate with increasing fluency in another language.
