What was evacuation like in World War 2?

This History interview with Kitty Baxter shares personal experiences of evacuation during World War 2. Key stage 2 children learn about how she felt leaving home on her birthday, the challenges of being separated from her sisters and the realities of life with a host family. It also highlights the impact the war had on her education and the loss of her father, who served as a soldier in the British Army.

This powerful oral history helps teachers bring lived experience into the classroom and supports Key stage 2 children in understanding the emotional impact of evacuation and wartime life.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s History Year 5 and 6 videos, which enable teachers and pupils to explore the past and understand how it has shaped the world today.
