Creating an animation with templates

This Kapow pupil video is part of the Kapow Computing scheme of work. It is designed for pupils and introduces how to create animations using themed templates and objects. Pupils begin by selecting a background template, such as a space scene, and then choosing an object to animate, like an astronaut. The video shows how to resize the object using the plus and minus buttons and drag it onto the background image. Pupils then click ‘add’ to place the object in the first frame and activate the onion skinning tool, which helps them track movement frame by frame.

The animation process continues as pupils reposition their object and click ‘add’ to create each new frame. The video explains how to use onion skinning to guide movements and how to delete a frame if a mistake is made. Once all the frames are in place, pupils press the ‘play’ button to watch their completed animation. The video encourages experimentation with different themes, objects and movements to help pupils build confidence with digital animation tools.
