Making 3D drawings

This Art and design scheme of work video shows pupils how to turn flat paper into 3D drawings by folding, rolling and shaping it in creative ways.

It starts by explaining that while paper is usually flat and two-dimensional, it can be transformed into 3D art by using simple techniques like folding, rolling and scrunching. The video introduces a variety of paper-shaping ideas to try: folding to make a table shape, bending into a curve, rolling into spirals, zigzags and loops, and even combining folds and rolls to make more complex shapes.

Once pupils have explored different paper techniques, they’re ready to create their own 3D drawings by arranging their paper shapes on card. They’re encouraged to experiment with overlapping, joining, cutting, or drawing onto shapes to add detail. The video also explains how to make folds at the ends of paper strips to help with gluing them securely to the base.
