  • Listen to and talk about stories to build familiarity and understanding.

  • Use and understand recently introduced vocabulary during discussions about stories, non-fiction, rhymes and poems and during role-play.

Support and challenge

  • Provide the children with a copy of their favourite story or a selection to choose from that they can refer to when decorating their bookmark.
  • Provide a black and white photocopy of the children’s favourite story to colour in.
  • Challenge the children to write words to describe what happens in their favourite story.
  • Challenge the children to explain why it is their favourite story.
