Ask the children to discuss the statement with a partner and decide whether they agree. Remind them that they need to explain why they agree or disagree.

Adaptive teaching

Pupils needing extra support

Should be given the Resource: Krishna and the fruit seller so they can follow it as the story is read aloud; could be given a recording of the teacher reading the story to listen to again.

Pupils working at greater depth

Should use a wide range of vocabulary (for example, special, kind, miracle, generous and avatar) when explaining why some people believe Krishna was special, showing that they can apply words from across the unit to a new story; should suggest why more than one story might link with the statements in the Wrapping up; should make links between the story and Hindu beliefs; could write their own sentence stems using the Activity: Discussion spinner: blank version.
