Adaptive teaching
Pupils needing extra support
Should use the Resource: Story sack pictures to follow the story of Abraham as it is read aloud, helping them sequence the events and understand the promise God made; could be given an audio recording of the teacher reading the Resource: Abraham’s story to listen to again to reinforce recall of key ideas about trust and God’s promise.
Pupils working at greater depth
Should describe their own ideas about promises and compare these with Abraham’s promise to God, linking to what this shows about trust and faith; could explain how the paper chain represents a promise passed through generations and connect this to similar ideas of faith or commitment in other worldviews; could explain how and why they have decorated their promise, making links with the story; could think of more than one thing that represents Abraham’s story.
