Adaptive teaching
Pupils needing extra support
Should use the Resource: 3D shapes and nets from Lesson 2: Using nets to help them identify and evaluate their partner’s net in the Attention grabber; should use the Resource: Nets with tabs (support) to guide where the tabs should be placed; could use Download: Cube net tabs (support) to drag or duplicate pre-made tabs when working on Sketchpad, reducing the complexity of drawing and positioning tabs from scratch.
Pupils working at greater depth
Should explain how the size or placement of tabs affects the strength and usability of the final packaging, referring to examples shown in the Presentation: Adding tabs; should suggest adaptations to improve a tab design (for example, a deeper tab or one further from the edge with a groove to hold the packaging shut) and explain why their change would make the net more effective; could compare two different tab designs on the same 3D shape and evaluate which design is more effective for strength, usability or sustainability, giving reasons.
