Adaptive teaching
Pupils needing support
Should use the Activity: Tower templates (support) to guide accurate construction of towers in the Main event; could use 3D maths shapes to remind them of the geometric forms when building towers; could use the Knowledge organiser to help with using the correct vocabulary in the Main event and Wrapping up.
Pupils working at greater depth
Should consider factors (variables) that affect the tower’s strength, such as whether the weight is placed centrally or at the edges, and explain the impact; could identify patterns between the shape, number of corners and strength when analysing results; could extend the investigation by using maths weights to measure collapse points or by testing how changes in height or cylinder width affect strength
