Adaptive teaching
Pupils needing extra support
Should have a knot tied in the wool to stop the needle slipping off; could work in a smaller group with an adult modelling each step or sit near the front to re-watch the Pupil video: Making stitches while working; could use a needle threader or folded piece of paper to help thread the wool through the needle; could use embroidery fabric with a straight line and evenly spaced marks pre-drawn to guide stitch placement.
Pupils working at greater depth
Should make a series of at least five stitches of equal size and tension in a straight line, showing accuracy and consistency; could experiment with stitching along curved lines as well as straight ones to create different patterns.
