Adaptive teaching

Pupils needing extra support

Should look around the classroom during the Attention grabber to find items made of fabric so they can link new learning to familiar objects; could use larger ribbon or wool to weave during the weaving activity to make the over-and-under action easier to see and control; could use a baking cooling rack or oven grill with wider spacing between the bars so that weaving is less fiddly.

Pupils working at greater depth

Should explain why different fabrics are chosen for different purposes based on simple properties such as waterproof, stretchy or soft; should weave using thinner threads or yarns, maintaining even tension to create a neat woven pattern; could classify the fabric samples as natural or human-made using the presentation prompts and justify at least one choice.
