What's changing?
- In July 2025, the DfE published updates to the statutory guidance for Relationships, Sex and Health Education. Schools are now required to teach a new framework from September 2026.
- The DfE also announced a wider curriculum review, setting out a new approach to curriculum design and delivery across all subjects. Publication is expected in spring 2027, with first teaching from September 2028.

1. New RSE & PSHE scheme
Find everything you need to know - what’s changing, when units are published and where to find key documents and support materials
What's the new vision?
Our new RSE & PSHE scheme sets out a clear, progressive and purposeful curriculum for EYFS to Year 6. It is designed to reflect the updated statutory guidance while supporting children to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes they need to be healthy, safe and active citizens.
Grounded in best practice and shaped by expert insight, the curriculum builds understanding over time, ensuring learning is age-appropriate, inclusive and carefully sequenced.
How will it be structured?
The scheme is a fully planned, carefully sequenced curriculum from EYFS to Year 6, designed to support teacher confidence as much as pupil learning.
It follows a spiral curriculum model, where key concepts are revisited and deepened over time, ensuring learning is age-appropriate, meaningful and secure.
Lessons across Year 1 to 6 are organised into nine key areas:
-
My healthy self
-
Connecting with others
-
The online world
-
Staying safe
-
Health protection
-
Growing up
-
Citizenship (non-statutory at present; included in the forthcoming National Curriculum from September 2028)
-
Sex education (non-statutory)
-
First aid (non-statutory)
A new mixed-age curriculum will also be available, supporting schools with mixed-age classes to implement the curriculum with clarity and progression.
When will it be published?
Overview
We know that clarity matters when planning for statutory changes. That’s why we’re publishing our updated RSE & PSHE scheme in carefully structured phases throughout 2026.
We’ve prioritised core statutory strands first, ensuring schools have early access to essential content. Additional and non-statutory units will follow later in the year.
All content will be available in good time for implementation. As each unit is released, it will appear in the Preview Area (coming soon), and you’ll be notified via your dashboard and email (you can sign up for updates here).
Over the summer holidays, the new scheme will move into the main RSE & PSHE area of the platform. The current scheme will transfer to the Archived Area, where it will remain accessible but will no longer appear in the main navigation and will not meet the new statutory guidance.

Can I see any of the new lessons?
Yes. We’ve released two example lessons for each key stage so you can explore the updated content and approach.
These sample lessons give a clear sense of structure, progression and the level of support included within the new scheme.
Will I need to change how I teach RSE?
Teaching will continue as normal. From September, you will teach your allocated year group as planned, with progression carefully mapped across the updated scheme.
The new curriculum builds on the structure of the previous scheme, ensuring continuity in learning and progression from EYFS to Year 6.
What has changed is the level of support. The new scheme includes clearer documentation, strengthened statutory mapping and additional guidance and videos to further support teacher confidence.
What do I need to do before September 2026?
Preparation for the new scheme is straightforward.
Before September, we recommend that schools:
-
Review the updated documentation and planning materials relevant to your role
-
Familiarise yourself with the new scheme and content
-
Ensure subject leaders and teaching staff are aware of the updates
-
Join our email list to receive notifications as new units and documents are published
There is no significant change to how you teach or how you use Kapow. The overall approach remains the same – with updated content and strengthened support in place.
Does it meet the requirements of the new statutory guidance?
Yes. The scheme meets the statutory requirements for Relationships, Sex and Health Education (2025) set out by the DfE.
It provides a clear, compliant curriculum that supports high-quality RSE & PSHE, with documentation and mapping to help schools implement and evidence coverage with confidence.
Will there be any support for parents?
Yes. Supporting clear and confident parent communication is a key part of the revised scheme.
Schools will have access to resources designed to promote transparency and reassurance, including:
-
Clear overviews of what will be taught
-
Guidance on approaching sensitive topics
-
Supporting videos and presentations
-
A dedicated parent information area with FAQs
The parent zone provides objective information about what children are learning, how content is taught and how families can offer support at home.
Schools will also be able to share lessons directly with parents through their dashboard. You can invite parents to view selected content, with full control managed through your own school account.
These materials are designed to build trust, strengthen home–school relationships and ensure parents feel informed and confident.
What does each unit include?
Each unit contains everything teachers need to deliver high-quality RSE lessons with confidence and ease.
Every unit includes:
-
Six fully planned lessons, linked to a clear overarching enquiry question
-
Knowledge catcher worksheets to support reflection and formative assessment
-
A knowledge organiser
-
Key vocabulary
Assessment quizzes have been removed as part of the revision. Instead, assessment is embedded within lessons through discussion, reflection and knowledge catchers – an approach better suited to the nature of RSE & PSHE learning.
A separate assessment spreadsheet is available to support whole-school tracking and progression across the scheme.
What does each lesson include?
Each lesson
Every lesson is designed to reduce workload and build teacher confidence, with support embedded throughout.
Each lesson includes:
-
Clear learning objectives
-
Bite-sized teacher CPD videos and guidance
-
Inclusive-by-design pedagogy
-
Adaptive teaching strategies
-
Regular opportunities for assessment
-
Engaging pupil-facing videos
Lessons can be adapted to suit your school context, policies and pupils’ needs, while maintaining a consistent and progressive approach across the whole school.
New characters
We’ve created a bespoke set of characters, developed in consultation with SEND and DEI specialists to ensure thoughtful and accurate representation.
Embedded throughout the curriculum, these characters appear across lessons, scenarios and videos. Pupils follow their journeys as they progress and grow over time, providing familiar, relatable figures who help explore sensitive topics in a safe and age-appropriate way.
Is there support beyond lesson plans?
As always, supporting teacher confidence and subject leadership is central to Kapow.
To help subject leaders and teachers feel fully prepared, the scheme includes clear supporting documentation that makes implementation and communication straightforward.
This includes:
- Statutory mapping showing how the scheme meets guidance
- Coverage documents for British values, SMSC development and protected characteristics
- Access to a dedicated online curriculum portal with long-term plans and progression overviews
- Practical tools such as equipment lists, parent guides and policy guidance
Together, these resources help schools demonstrate clear intent, implementation and impact — and communicate confidently with parents and governors.
How does Kapow's RSE & PSHE curriculum support pupils’ wider personal development?
The revised scheme actively supports pupils’ Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural (SMSC) development, alongside the promotion of British values.
Through carefully planned learning opportunities, pupils are supported to:
-
Explore different perspectives
-
Reflect on emotional and ethical issues
-
Build positive relationships rooted in respect and tolerance
Structured discussion and collaborative activities also strengthen oracy skills, helping pupils to listen actively, articulate their ideas clearly and engage in respectful dialogue.
Why choose RSE & PSHE by Kapow Primary?
Working with experts
RSE is one of the most important – and sometimes most sensitive – areas of the primary curriculum. Our scheme has been developed with care, expertise and real classroom needs in mind.
We’ve worked in collaboration with specialists including:
-
Nutritionists
-
RSE & PSHE consultants
-
Subject leaders and teachers
-
SENDCOs
-
Diversity and inclusion specialists
Championing teachers
For teachers, the scheme provides a consistent, progressive curriculum with built-in support at every stage. Strengthening teacher subject knowledge is central to our approach – because confident teachers lead confident learning.
CPD is built directly into the scheme through:
-
Bite-sized teacher CPD videos
-
Clear, step-by-step guidance within lessons
-
Carefully sequenced content that builds understanding year on year
This means staff are supported not only with what they need to teach, but with the subject knowledge and confidence to teach it well.
Bespoke characters
For pupils, a bespoke set of characters is embedded throughout the curriculum. This distancing technique allows children to explore sensitive topics safely, without needing to share personal experiences. It helps to:
-
Reduce embarrassment
-
Lower safeguarding risks
-
Encourage empathy and honest discussion
-
Support thoughtful, age-appropriate problem-solving
Together, these elements create a scheme that is rigorous, inclusive and practical – designed to support both teachers and pupils with confidence.
