Our approach to the primary RE curriculum
This printable PDF document provides a detailed overview of Kapow Primary’s 30-week Religion and worldviews scheme of work, designed to support schools that deliver the subject each week in EYFS, KS1 and KS2. It helps primary teachers confidently deliver a well-structured, engaging RE scheme, aligned with the National curriculum.
What does Kapow Primary’s RE long-term plan contain?
The long-term plan outlines the progression of skills and knowledge in RE, ensuring that pupils build upon their learning each year in a spiral curriculum.
It covers the statutory requirements of the National curriculum, details the RE skills and knowledge taught, offers guidance on primary RE assessment and provides information to support the implementation of Kapow Primary’s Music scheme within your primary school setting.
How does Kapow Primary’s RE scheme develop knowledge and skills?
This document provides a suggested long-term plan for each year group, ensuring a clear pathway for pupil learning. Progression is broken down into the following key areas:
- Substantive knowledge – learning about a range of organised religions and worldviews; examining key religious concepts; identifying similarities and differences between some religions and worldviews.
- Personal knowledge – developing a sense of the children’s own worldviews, personal knowledge and ideas about life’s meaning and purpose.
- Disciplinary knowledge – using a variety of methods to understand religions and worldviews; observing religious practices.
Can I adapt the RE long-term plan to my school?
All schools have different needs. As such, Kapow Primary’s RE units can be taught in different orders or moved within year groups to align with your school’s specific requirements and cross-curricular links.
If your school is short on curriculum time, you may wish to consider our R&W: Long-term plan – condensed curriculum, which covers the National curriculum in 18 lessons.
