The Big Draw: Activity Ideas For The Senses

Kapow Primary is delighted to be a sponsor-partner of The Big Draw 2023, which is running for October.

For those who want to delve deeper into this year’s theme, ‘Drawing with the senses’, we’ve created this document, which is brimming with activity ideas, each centred around a specific sense and inspired by a renowned artist.

These activity ideas are designed for seamless integration into your current teaching framework, and we encourage you to share them with your entire school and get everyone creative this October.

The Big Draw: A Month Of Art Activities

As a sponsor-partner, our free calendar has you covered for an effortless and enjoyable way to join The Big Draw Festival 2023 this October.

It offers a new sensory-inspired drawing activity for each school day over four weeks – a perfect way to kickstart your day or take a quick, creative break. Share these activities with your school community for sparks of creativity and a chance for pupils to explore the world around them.

Pupil Video: Song – Continents

A musical introduction to the seven continents, helping pupils memorise names and size order through song.

Pupil video: Song – Compass directions

This Geography video helps pupils memorise and understand compass directions through a catchy and energetic song. Using repetition and movement, the video reinforces the key directional terms — north, east, south, and west — as well as the combinations of northeast and southwest. It supports pupils in building early locational skills and spatial awareness in an engaging and accessible way.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Geography Key stage 1 resources. It provides a musical and kinaesthetic approach to embedding fundamental geographical vocabulary and concepts in Year 1.
