Exploring religious leadership and change

This Religion and worldviews video supports teachers delivering a unit that explores the big questions: What is religion? and How can worldviews and beliefs change? Children investigate key concepts such as succession, leadership, authority, and bloodline across religious and non-religious worldviews. They explore how leaders are chosen — whether through family lineage, community votes, or spiritual calling — and consider how beliefs and traditions shape these decisions. By examining stories, scripture, and first-hand accounts, children gain insight into the importance of leadership in guiding values, practices, and everyday life.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Religion and worldviews resources – leadership. It prepares teachers to approach sensitive topics such as leadership roles and religious law with care and inclusivity. Children are supported in developing their personal knowledge by asking questions, sharing views, and respecting different perspectives. The video encourages a non-judgemental approach and highlights the diversity of views, even within a single worldview. Teachers are also guided to adapt lessons to reflect the local community and are encouraged to invite visitors to share their lived experiences of leadership and belief.
