What are prophets for?

This Religion and worldviews video supports teachers in delivering a unit that explores the big questions: What is religion? and How can worldviews change? Children investigate beliefs from Jewish, Christian, Muslim and Sikh worldviews by learning about prophets, messengers and gurus. They explore what makes certain people special in religious traditions, focusing on the characteristics of prophets, their promises with God, and the impact of their messages today. Stories from scripture, such as those of Jonah, Abraham, Moses, Muhammad, Jesus and Guru Nanak, help children to understand how different worldviews view these figures, and how the same person can be seen in different ways depending on belief.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Religion and worldviews resources – prophets. It prepares teachers to explain key concepts such as prophecy, divine connection and revelation, while also highlighting potential misconceptions — like thinking all prophets are perfect or that all religions view Jesus the same way. Teachers are supported to lead respectful discussions that consider how stories, language and beliefs vary across worldviews, and are encouraged to adapt lessons to reflect their community. The video also includes guidance on using inclusive language, addressing sensitive topics, and inviting community voices to enrich pupils’ learning.
