Seasons: Watch, wonder, learn

This Science scheme of work video introduces teachers to the skills needed to help Early Years pupils observe and explore seasonal changes throughout the school year. Designed as six standalone lessons, one for each half term, the unit supports children in experiencing nature firsthand, developing skills in observation, classification, and early scientific inquiry. From sorting autumn treasures and learning how animals stay warm in winter, to exploring life cycles in spring and investigating sandcastles in summer, each lesson builds on pupils’ curiosity and sensory engagement.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Science Unit overview resources. It simplifies the process, ensuring teachers feel confident and prepared to support pupils in developing scientific thinking through outdoor learning. With opportunities for prediction, investigation, and creative expression using natural materials, the unit encourages children to connect with the changing world around them while laying foundations for future science learning in Key Stage 1.
