Ideas and beliefs about suffering, free will and hope

This Religion and worldviews video introduces the unit Why is there suffering?, preparing teachers to guide pupils through a thoughtful exploration of beliefs about suffering, free will and hope. The video outlines key ideas from Christian, Jewish and Zoroastrian worldviews, helping teachers understand how different traditions interpret suffering and respond to life’s challenges.

It also offers practical teaching advice, including how to address common misconceptions and adapt lessons for the class with sensitivity.

This video equips teachers with subject knowledge and pedagogical tips to help them feel confident leading meaningful discussions about how people make sense of suffering and find hope. Teachers will support pupils to explore diverse perspectives and reflect on their own responses within the unit below.
