Gratitude across diverse worldviews

This Religion and worldviews video supports teachers in delivering a unit exploring how worldviews influence everyday life and how gratitude is expressed through actions, words, and symbols. Children investigate Christian, Hindu and humanist perspectives, making links to their own experiences while exploring the concepts of worship, symbolism, and thankfulness. The unit draws on examples like Hindu puja, Christian harvest festivals, and humanist reflections on food production, helping children consider how religious and non-religious beliefs shape expressions of gratitude. It also introduces key festivals such as Holi, Succot and Thanksgiving, broadening children’s understanding of symbolic practices across traditions.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Religion and worldviews scheme – Thanks. It equips teachers with the subject knowledge and contextual understanding needed to confidently guide pupils through sensitive and diverse content. Teachers are supported in addressing misconceptions—such as assuming puja is practised the same way by all Hindus—and in making room for inclusive discussion around issues such as food donations. The video encourages adaptations that reflect local communities and worldviews, and highlights how the unit can help children connect personal values with wider beliefs and practices while promoting tolerance, empathy, and appreciation of diversity.
