Diversity in South Asian worldviews

This Religion and worldviews video supports teachers in exploring how Buddhist, Hindu, Jain, and Sikh worldviews have developed over time across South Asia. It introduces the idea that diversity within and between worldviews can arise from cultural, geographical and historical influences, such as oral storytelling, local customs and evolving interpretations. The video uses examples like the varied deities in Hindu practice, Buddhist approaches to mindfulness, and Guru Nanak’s response to inequality to demonstrate how teachings and beliefs can be expressed in different ways, even when rooted in shared ideas.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Religion and worldviews scheme – the world. It prepares teachers to support respectful discussions about cultural and religious difference, helping pupils understand how sacred stories, rituals and texts are interpreted and lived differently across communities. The video highlights potential misconceptions and offers guidance for fostering curiosity, care and critical thinking when exploring diversity in global and local contexts.
