Getting started with scratch

This Computing video supports teachers in guiding the children in getting started with Scratch by setting up and managing class accounts.

The video demonstrates how to register a teacher account, create a class and add children using a CSV file. It introduces the Scratch interface, showing how to add sprites and backgrounds, and explains what to do when the children get stuck. The video highlights key vocabulary such as ‘sprite’, ‘costumes’ and ‘studio’, helping teachers model how to navigate and troubleshoot the basics of the program. The lesson builds teacher confidence and computational thinking, supporting the children in starting creative programming projects and preparing them for the next stage, which is designing and coding their own ideas.
