Making eco-friendly pots

This Science scheme of work video introduces teachers to the skills needed to help Key Stage 2 pupils investigate the suitability of different materials for making an eco-friendly plant pot. Pupils fold and shape materials such as newspaper, tinfoil, fabric, and bubble wrap, assessing their performance through a series of practical tests. The video demonstrates each stage of the process, from shaping pots and adding soil to watering and evaluating durability, while guiding pupils to record their results in tables to support evidence-based decisions.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Science Making connections resources. It simplifies the process, ensuring teachers feel confident and prepared to support pupils in testing materials, analysing outcomes, and drawing conclusions. With a focus on careful observation and thoughtful evaluation, the activity develops practical enquiry skills while highlighting sustainability in lessons like the ones below.
