Building confidence with Spanish phonics
This Spanish Kapow teacher video supports you in building confidence with pronunciation through phonics. It explains how phonics, grammar and vocabulary form the foundation for language learning, with a particular focus on listening and speaking in Year 3. Children are encouraged to make links between sounds and spelling, noticing differences between English and Spanish such as silent letters and punctuation. The lesson models how to support pupils in listening for key sounds within words and introduces fun activities, like using coloured counters to represent phonemes.
This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Spanish scheme of work – grammar. It introduces the native speaker phoneme videos included throughout the scheme, which demonstrate mouth mechanics and authentic pronunciation. These can be used flexibly, both in lessons and for individual reference. You’ll gain practical support for leading discrete phonics activities and using familiar words like colours and numbers to revisit key sounds. This approach helps pupils develop accurate pronunciation and builds teacher confidence, especially for non-specialists.
