Teaching remembrance across the school

This History video supports teachers in delivering a meaningful and inclusive series of Remembrance lessons across the primary age range. Linked to Remembrance Day, the collection encourages age-appropriate exploration of who we remember, how we remember them and why this matters. Each key stage builds on the last, from simple ideas about memory and gratitude in EYFS to more complex reflections on sacrifice, service and representation in Key Stage 2.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Remembrance collection. It demonstrates how pupils engage with key concepts through stories, symbolism and enquiry. From learning about figures such as Walter Tull, to exploring different memorials and designing exhibitions, the children develop a deeper understanding of remembrance. Lessons include opportunities for creative responses and a two-minute silence, alongside guidance for supporting sensitive discussions about conflict, loss and personal connections.
