An overview of the skills and knowledge covered in the unit 'Playground pioneers'

In this Design and technology video, teachers are guided through the principal aims in skills and knowledge during the ‘Playground pioneers’ unit.

The video outlines the design challenge that the children are set, which is to design an innovative structure to improve a playground that fits within given constraints.  The video also recaps the different types of structures and how to identify them, providing valuable CPD for teachers. Additionally included are tips for using saws to cut wood for frames and how to join them using PVA glue, as well as some key misconceptions around evaluation and constraints. Key outcomes of the unit are clearly explained, allowing teachers to focus on assessment for learning throughout.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Design and technology videos, which enable teachers and pupils to explore and make their own products.
