Designing an improved playground

In this Geography video, teachers are supported in delivering the final lesson of the playground fieldwork enquiry, where the children use previously collected data to respond to the question: Can we make our playground even better? The video demonstrates how students reflect on the idea that the space belongs to us and suggest practical improvements, such as reducing litter, enhancing play equipment, or adding features like a mud kitchen, garden, or den-building area.

Teachers are guided in using the interactive presentation to prompt creative thinking and help pupils design their improved playground from either an aerial or ground-level perspective. Pupils are encouraged to consider who their design might influence and teachers are shown how to create a real sense of purpose by sharing work with school staff or decision-makers.

This lesson is part of the Geography fieldwork and mapping videos, which support progression in spatial thinking, geographical vocabulary and collaborative fieldwork planning.
