Introducing photomontages

In this Art and Design scheme of work video, the art style of photomontage is introduced, so teachers can help pupils explore how existing images can be transformed into striking new compositions.

The video gives a brief introduction to the history of photomontage, and then shows how children can use this technique to design a cityscape poster using photos of household objects. The video illustrates each step of the process, including gathering images, experimenting with composition, and working to a specific brief. The video includes tips on selecting and printing suitable product images, using black and white photos for building shapes, and choosing effective backgrounds.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Year 6 Photo opportunity unit. The video provides clear, practical guidance to deliver the lesson effectively and creatively.
