This History video supports teachers with the Early Learning Goal of commenting on images of familiar past situations. It explains how to help Reception children reflect on their own life experiences and recognise that each of them has a personal history. Using photos, objects and shared memories, children learn that the past is not only long ago but also anything that has already happened, including events from earlier today or last week.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s History Reception resources. It shows how carefully chosen vocabulary, role play and picture books can spark discussion and curiosity about past experiences. Teachers are encouraged to model time-related language and use activities that build early chronological awareness, preparing children for the historical vocabulary and concepts introduced in Year 1.
