Reading the months in Spanish

This Spanish video supports teachers in delivering an engaging lesson where children learn to identify, read and write the months of the year in Spanish. With a strong focus on pronunciation, the lesson helps pupils recognise that most Spanish month names are cognates, very similar to their English equivalents, and builds their confidence in sounding out Spanish words phonetically. Teachers are supported to model pronunciation using syllable division and to introduce simple intonation techniques that turn statements into questions, building essential early speaking and listening skills.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Spanish scheme of work – vocabulary. It equips teachers with practical strategies for teaching phonics and syllables in a fun and memorable way, using hand gestures and facial expression to reinforce language patterns. Designed to lay the foundations for future lessons on dates and birthdays, it supports pupils to develop accurate pronunciation and encourages active participation through choral speaking, repetition and visual cues.
