Creating monster mashups
This French video introduces teachers to a creative sentence-building activity inspired by Spike Milligan’s playful poetry. Pupils use their knowledge of nouns, gender, and body part vocabulary to invent mashup creatures, combining phrases such as il a la tête d’un éléphant and il a le corps d’une girafe. The lesson consolidates prior grammar learning while offering opportunities to extend more confident pupils with connectives and adjectives to create stylish, flowing descriptions.
This video is part of Kapow Primary’s French scheme of work – grammar. It provides a clear step-by-step model for scaffolding longer sentences and creative writing, supported by a PowerPoint, images, and vocabulary banks. Teachers are guided on how to differentiate, from simple descriptive sentences to extended projects linking art, science, and computing, ensuring pupils of all abilities can succeed in producing their own imaginative French mashups.
