Using “Le gusta” for He/She Likes

This Spanish Kapow teacher video supports you in teaching how to use the verb gustar in the third person to describe what someone else likes. Pupils are already familiar with me gusta and te gusta to say what they and others enjoy doing. This lesson builds on that foundation by introducing le gusta – used for both “he likes” and “she likes.” Children will explore this new structure in the context of familiar verbs, reinforcing how preferences are expressed in Spanish.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Spanish scheme of work – grammar. It helps clarify that while gustar translates as “to like,” its literal meaning – “it is pleasing to”—affects the sentence structure. You’ll gain guidance on explaining how me, te and le work as indirect object pronouns, helping children develop a deeper understanding of Spanish grammar. This lesson offers opportunities for spoken practice and supports children in applying their learning through simple dialogues and written activities.
