Preparing automaton frame parts

This Design and technology video introduces teachers to preparing the wooden and card components needed to build an automaton toy frame. It covers how to mark and saw wood safely using a bench hook, label each part for easy assembly, and create axle holes using either a drill or punched card. Teachers are guided through measuring and cutting frame supports and card tops, ensuring all parts are ready for construction in the next stage.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Design and technology – Mechanics teacher videos.. It simplifies material preparation and tool use, helping teachers feel confident and prepared to support children in building automaton structures in the lesson and unit below.
