How far can sound travel?

This Science scheme of work video introduces teachers to the skills needed to help Key Stage 2 pupils investigate how distance affects the volume of sound. Pupils begin by observing changes in sound as it moves closer or farther away, then conduct a fair test to measure volume at different distances using a recorded sound and a tape measure. The video guides teachers in helping pupils plan the method, identify variables, and collect reliable data in an outdoor setting.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Science Sound resources. It simplifies the process, ensuring teachers feel confident and prepared to support pupils in exploring sound through hands-on enquiry, drawing meaningful conclusions, and understanding how sound waves travel in lessons like the ones below.
