Learning about MakeCode

This Computing scheme of work video supports teachers in navigating the MakeCode platform while introducing key programming concepts such as algorithms and sequences. It provides a practical overview of how to get started and explains how to use the tool confidently in a Primary classroom setting.

The video begins by demonstrating how to access MakeCode. It highlights key features on the home page including My projects, Tutorials and the Import option and encourages teachers to explore tutorials to build familiarity with the interface. Inside the editor, the video explains the purpose of the three main areas: the coding space, block menu and micro:bit simulator. It models how to create simple programs using blocks like on start, forever and show icon, while reinforcing concepts such as algorithms (sets of instructions) and sequences (the order in which code runs). This video gives teachers clear classroom-ready guidance to begin coding with MakeCode, making programming approachable and meaningful for both teachers and the children.
