Exploring Antarctica’s unique physical and human features
In this Geography video, teachers are supported in teaching about the extreme and fascinating continent of Antarctica, highlighting both its physical geography and limited human presence. The lesson equips the children with knowledge of Antarctica’s polar climate, where temperatures are freezing, winds are fierce and snowstorms are frequent.
Teachers are guided in delivering key concepts around climate, seasonal variation, human geography and adaptation, enabling the children to make comparisons between their own lives and life in one of Earth’s most remote regions. The video also explores life in research stations, showing how scientists survive using specialist clothing, receive limited supplies and work based on weather conditions.
This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Place knowledge teacher videos, helping children explore the diversity of places and human activity across the globe.
