Creating different types of line

This Art and design scheme of work video introduces a lesson where pupils explore different types of line by experimenting with control and pressure.

The lesson introduces pupils to the work of artist Bridget Riley, whose use of simple lines creates striking visual effects.

Children are introduced to a range of materials to experiment with. While modelling to pupils is helpful, the focus is on exploration, giving pupils space to make their own discoveries. The video shows how children learn to use the tip, edge or side of a drawing tool. They will practice applying different levels of pressure. Pupils will consider the process of drawing more than aiming for perfection.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Year 1 Exploring line and shape unit.
