Evacuation during the Second World War

This History video supports teachers in delivering a thoughtful, balanced lesson about the evacuation of civilians during the Second World War. The children explore the reasons for the evacuation, who was involved and how it affected both the evacuees and the families who hosted them. Through a combination of historical facts and personal experiences, the children develop empathy and understanding of this major event in British history. This video offers practical guidance on exploring multiple perspectives, including children’s different experiences during evacuation.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Second World War resources. Teachers are guided in helping the children examine sources critically, ask historical questions, and consider how wartime decisions affected ordinary lives, equipping them with the skills to think deeply about the past.
