Describing a family member

This Spanish Kapow teacher video supports you in leading a lesson where pupils apply their knowledge of the third person singular in Spanish to describe a family member or friend. With the help of a word bank, children build sentences using familiar nouns, verbs and adjectives. While some may wish to explore beyond the provided vocabulary, this video encourages keeping the focus on accurate and confident sentence formation, rather than extensive dictionary use, which is better suited to lessons specifically designed for that purpose.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Spanish scheme of work – grammar. It highlights the importance of scaffolding independent writing through sentence modelling, structured word banks and strategies for adapting ideas within pupils’ current language range. You’ll be supported to manage a balance between encouraging correct grammar and allowing creative freedom, whether pupils write about real people or invent a character. The video reinforces the idea that experimenting with language, even imperfectly, is a key part of successful language learning.
