Recording data in tables and graphs

This Science video introduces teachers to effective methods for recording data, making it easier for pupils to share results, identify patterns and relationships, and draw conclusions. It explains how to record both quantitative (numerical) and qualitative (descriptive) data in results tables, following the correct layout with variables, headings, and units in the right place. Using examples from Kapow Primary’s Science units, it demonstrates how to present data clearly, when to allow for repeat readings, and how to adapt tables for different enquiry types, such as observational records or measurements.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Science – results. It supports teachers in helping pupils select the most appropriate way to present their results, linking the type of data to the correct graph choice, such as bar charts for categorical data and line graphs for continuous data. By modelling clear and accurate recording techniques, the video ensures teachers can guide pupils to produce well-structured results tables that make analysing and interpreting scientific data easier.
