Colour and shape in Spanish design
This Spanish Kapow teacher video supports a cross-curricular lesson that links language learning with art and design. Pupils explore the Spanish landmarks of Parc Güell and the Alhambra Palace, using colour and shape vocabulary to describe mosaics and geometric patterns. The focus is on adjective placement in Spanish, where most descriptive words come after the noun. Through speaking and listening games, songs, and creative activities, children practise new vocabulary and develop confidence with key phonemes and sentence structures.
This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Spanish scheme of work – vocabulary. It offers guidance on teaching colour and shape adjectives, building pupils’ grammatical awareness in an engaging and visual way. Practical tips for pronunciation and repetition are included, along with ideas for supporting less confident learners. By comparing language structures in English and Spanish, pupils deepen their understanding of how language works, while also drawing inspiration from Spanish art and architecture to create their own designs.
